In Navi Mumbai, cases of 306 road accident deaths and 845 severely injured were reported from January to November 2012. To avoid traffic accidents and to spread awareness among the masses, Road Safety Week is organised by the Central Government every year from 1st January to 7th January. Maharashtra State government has extended the safety awareness drive for a fortnight to involve the citizens and especially the youth for the road safety awareness campaign by educating them and creating awareness about the Road Safety Discipline to minimize fatal road accidents and save lives.
Navi Mumbai Traffic Department conducts various programs and events, like Drawing Competition , Story Writing Competition for school children, One Minute Talent, Band Competition for College students, Photography Competition for Media , Slogan Competition, 10 km Marathon race etc. to create awareness about road safety. The department solicits the participation from youth, Media and various sections of the society to collectively standup and spread importance of Road Safety Discipline and ensures we can save more lives.
